Jay Forester, J.D., LL.M., Manager, Plante Moran

As a manager in our state and local tax (SALT) practice, I work in all areas of SALT including income/franchise, sales/use, and gross receipts taxes, but I mainly focus on indirect taxes. I primarily work with clients in the service industry and our due diligence practice where I help clients navigate the state tax issues that arise in a transaction.

Frequently, I speak with clients, other professionals, and prospects on SALT issues. Recent topics include the sales tax changes that have resulted from the Supreme Court Wayfair decision, Colorado’s complex and new sales tax rules, and the taxability of software as a service.

I earned my B.S. in accounting from the University of Miami, my J.D. from University of Tulsa, and a LL.M. from the University of Denver.

I spend most of my free time with my three and five-year-old children and enjoying living in Colorado.

Fun fact: I have a pet tortoise named Mali.
